Project Description

Toome Bay

Departing from The Lock Keeper’s Cottage

Meet your Skipper at the Lock-Keeper’s Cottage on Toome Canal, a Waterways Heritage Centre and cafe.  Here you will listen to a safety briefing and have your life jacket fitted.

Cruising along Toome Canal where we were involved in the filming of scenes with Peter Dinklage and Iain Glen for Game of Thrones, you will see Dragonflies, Heron and Water Fowl.  We then pass through the historic Lock Gates and transit into Toome Bay.

Toome Bay is an indentation of Lough Neagh on its North-Western shore.  Ancient deposits excavated here have been found to be the oldest recorded human artefacts in Ireland.

Our boat will take you close to the sand quays at the shoreline where you will see the sand barges at work. The South end of Toome Bay is the deepest part of Lough Neagh at 94 feet. This is where we will meet the eel fishermen setting lines.
