This trip departs from the Lock-Keepers Cottage on Toome canal
Meet your Skipper at the Lock-Keepers Cottage, a Waterways Heritage Centre, cafe and community hub. After a safety briefing we cruise South through Toome Canal and the historic Lock Gates where you will see dragonflies, herons and water fowl. It was here that we were involved in Game of Thrones filming with Peter Dinklage and Iain Glen.
Contemplate the history as we travel through Toome Bay where 9000 year old human artefacts were discovered, some of the oldest in Ireland.
On our way to Ballyronan Marina we may come across a sand barge or some of Lough Neagh’s traditional fishermen who are always happy to chat and let us see what they are doing.
Ballyronan is a popular site for water sports and leisure and we will usually see some sailing vessels or small leisure craft close by. The facility offers a restaurant, kids play area, picnic sites and the Ballyronan Wood Nature Trail. You may disembark for a comfort break here and explore or relax.
From Ballyronan we speed along the shoreline taking in the sights, including the High Cross at Ardboe. Made from sandstone and stretching some 18 feet high, it is all that remains of a 6th century monastery. We disembark at the popular Battery Bar where you can avail of refreshments. A pleasant walk around the quay where Lough Neagh Rescue is stationed can be enjoyed.
