Project Description

Gobbins Sea Safari

Scenic tour with stunning photographic opportunities and a unique perspective of the Gobbins Cliff Path

Carrickfergus

Setting sail from Carrickfergus Harbour gives you the opportunity to see Carrickfergus Castle from the sea, probably the best way to view and photograph any coastal castle.

Whitehead

Next we sail onwards to the idyllic Victorian seaside village of Whitehead.  Similarly, it is best viewed and photographed from the sea due to it’s colourful array of houses facing seawards. Whitehead is known as the “Town With No Streets”, as all roads and thoroughfares are named without the use of the word “street”. It is a Victorian railway village and has a well kept conservation area.

Blackhead Lighthouse

History enthusiasts will love seeing the picturesque Blackhead Lighthouse.  Constructed in 1901 during the glory days of Belfast’s shipping, this lighthouse guided all ships in and out of Belfast Lough, including the ill-fated Titanic.

Gobbins Cliff Path Walk

Truly a spectacular sight, the Gobbins is renowned for its Victorian Cliff Path Walk.  Including tunnels and suspension bridges which were recently rebuilt, it is an engineering spectacle.  Because we are not restricted by how far we can go, we get a full view of all the caves, the bridges and beyond the current walk-way.

Gobbins Wildlife

Declared an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) due to the colonies of breeding seabirds, unusual geological features and wide range of marine plant life, the Gobbins is one of Northern Ireland’s best kept secrets.

Home to Northern Ireland’s only mainland colony of Puffins, a popular bird with a colourful beak during breeding season.  Puffins are strong flyers and expert divers, able to dive up to sixty meters deep.

Guillemots, Razorbills, Cormorants, Kittiwakes and Shags have also made this amazing location their home.  We regularly see an abundance of Lions Mane jellyfish here during the summer months and curious seals are always ready to peep out of the water to say hello.

With its mysterious black caves, an array of wildlife, and interesting features, the Gobbins trip has something for everyone.
